CYCLES OF DECOMPOSITION

Medium: Digital

Created Fall 2023

Class: Philosophical Inquiry

Process:

For this final, my philosophy professor left the final as an open creative assignment that had to reflect on a concept that intrugied us. I was inspired by the Japanese Woodblock Prints depicting the 9 Stages of Decomposition, and made my own version as the final for this class.

Challenges:

A challenge for me in this piece was to accurately show each of the nine stages, as many of the indications were small and made it hard to make each stage obviouss.

Final Product:

This piece took me 5 hours to complete and was created entirely on Procreate via my iPad and Apple Pencil. The burshes used are the Studio Pen, the Round Paint Brush, and a custom wet brush. The text reads “Death” in the circles, while the border lays out each of the nine stages.
